Airfix partners with The Carbon Removers to accelerate Carbon Dioxide Removal and BECCS deployment across Europe

Airfix and The Carbon Removers (formerly Carbon Capture Scotland) have joined forces in a strategic partnership to accelerate the deployment of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) solutions, with a primary focus on Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) across the UK, Denmark, and the Netherlands.

Leveraging complementary strengths, this partnership pairs The Carbon Removers’ long-standing experience in full chain biogenic carbon removal  alongside Airfix’s expertise in carbon transport, storage and the monetisation of BECCS CDRs. Together, we aim to drive the permanent removal of biogenic CO₂ at key CDR hubs in Europe, generating high-quality, permanent carbon removal credits and accelerating efforts towards a net-zero future.

This collaboration is set to advance key CDR and BECCS projects that align with Europe’s climate goals, including increasingly ambitious carbon removal targets in the UK and EU. Powered by The Carbon Removers’ state-of-the-art technology, these projects will initially remove up to 30,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually in the UK by 2026, with plans to scale this to 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year across Europe by 2027. With a focus on CO₂ from biogenic sources such as waste from agriculture, distilleries and breweries, projects will inject additional revenue in local economies. The captured CO₂ will be securely transported and permanently stored in either carbonated building materials or in geological storage sites, including those located in the North Sea.

Together, Airfix and The Carbon Removers are committed to scaling BECCS technology to meet Europe’s net-zero targets, fostering scalable carbon removal innovations that drive the decarbonisation of energy systems and industry.

Our partnership with Airfix represents a significant step forward in our mission to remove CO₂ from biogenic sources. By combining our capabilities in innovative CO₂ solutions with Airfix’s expertise in carbon project management, we can amplify our efforts and accelerate the deployment of effective carbon removal strategies that benefit both the environment and local economies”, Sanjay Parekh, Chief Commercial Officer, The Carbon Removers.

The whole team at The Carbon Removers is hands-on, efficient, driven and committed to have a positive climate impact. We have been collaborating with them in a very open manner over the past two years, and it’s incredible to formalise this strategic partnership today with the ambition to scale the BECCS market in Europe”, Aymeric Reymond, Head of Project Development, Airfix.

About Airfix

Airfix, a subsidiary of South Pole, combines decades of climate finance and carbon project development expertise with a vision for a scalable Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) market in Europe. At Airfix, we envision a world where carbon removal is seamlessly integrated into industrial public services, including energy and waste management.

Our goal is to establish a future where securely removing and storing carbon emissions is the standard, and polluting the atmosphere is a relic of the past. Over the next decade, Airfix aims to remove 5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide through Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS). We empower biogenic emitters to set up effective carbon removal projects and facilitate the generation and sale of certified BECCS carbon removal credits. We collaborate closely with South Pole’s carbon removal initiatives, such as the CCS+ initiative, DemoUpCARMA and the NextGen CDR Facility.
